After the Washington Wizards‘ 109-99 win over the Charlotte Hornets, John Wall stated the team would be wearing “all black everything” before the team faced the Boston Celtics. The reason? This game was going to serve as “a funeral” for the Celtics.

The game is likely going to be very close throughout, but Washington could turn this into a funeral by pulling away late or hitting a game winning shot. The matchup is sure to be full with a lot of trash talking and a few scuffles here and there. This may end up being the best regular season game of the season.

Both Boston and Washington need this win as they look to build on their records while also overtaking a psychological edge over a potential future playoff matchup.

Many are saying Boston and Washington are one the NBA‘s newest rivalries because of the trash talking going on between the two teams. In the last matchup, Jae Crowder and Wall were both fined were their involvement in a post-game scuffle between the two.

The disdain between both sides in obvious, and even more intriguing considering how Wall and Isaiah Thomas are fighting for a spot as a reserve in the All-Star game. Although both will likely take part in the game, winning the season series could earn either one bragging rights.

In the first matchup of the season between the teams, Washington blew out Boston by 25 points, creating a season tie of one game apiece. With only two head-to-head games left between the two throughout the rest of the regular season, this game could serve as a huge confidence booster heading into game four.

Boston is currently holding the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference while Washington is in 5th, but with a lot of the season left to play, the two could end up meeting sometime in the playoffs. True rivalries are made in the playoffs. If the media wants to call this a rivalry, the league will have to wait and see if something interesting between the two will happen in the playoffs.
