The Golden State Warriors suffered a devastating 129-100 defeat against the San Antonio Spurs in their season opener on Tuesday night in a highly anticipated clash between the two seeds in the Western Conference.
Kawhi Leonard, who finished second in the MVP voting ballot last season, finished with a career-high 35 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals as the Spurs dominated the game from start to finish.
The new-look Warriors, who gave up Andrew Bogut, Festus Ezeli, Harrison Barnes and Leandro Barbosa to recruit superstar Kevin Durant, struggled to maintain any rhythm through the first half.
While Stephen Curry (3/10 3-Pt) had 26 points and 4 assists, Durant finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds in his debut as a Warrior. However, Klay Thompson went 5/13 from the field for his 11 points.
