Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has reportedly agreed to a 10-year contract with the Jordan Brand, per ESPN’s Nick DePaula.

Westbrook was offered the contract after his previous five-year contract expired this fall. No financial terms of the extension have been released as of yet, but one notable feature that has been released is the fact that Westbrook will gain his own signature shoe. Westbrook creating his own signature shoe would be a huge move for Jordan, with the company saying, “It is unlike anything that Jordan Brand has done before.” The point guard has gained immense popularity for being a fashion-forward player and perhaps the NBA’s most stylish guard.

Though it has not yet been released when Westbrook will officially get his own shoe, it should be sometime soon. Westbrook and Dirk Nowitzki remain as the only two active NBA MVPs that have yet to have their own signature shoe. It’s important to note that Jordan has also agreed to contribute to Westbrook’s ‘Why Not?’ Foundation and added an ‘ambassador’ clause to his contract, which will keep him with the brand after retirement.

With Westbrook’s contract coming on the heels of an MVP season, it may seem like it was a missed business opportunity. But Jordan officials called the timing “merely a mechanism” and said that they didn’t want to announce the new line until they were able to sign Westbrook long term. With new teammate Paul George, Westbrook could be set for another incredible year and Jordan officials would want nothing more than for that to happen.

While it’s not clear yet what Westbrook’s shoe will look like, we can expect it will be incredible. As for the contract, Jordan may have signed their most important contract to date.
