Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis are both stars on not-so-good teams, and both could be on the move when their contracts expire if their teams do not begin to compete for championships. On their own, the two are lethal, but combined the two could create the next NBA powerhouse.
Both have been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers in the past, but now the two could look to join in LA together down the line. According to a source, the two could look to get out of their current situations to play together.
The following is from Bleacher Report.
Thad Foucher of the Wasserman Media Group, the same agency that represents Russell Westbrook, is Davis’ agent. A source close to Davis’ agent floated the possibility that the end game could find the two uniting in Los Angeles with the talent-starved Lakers. Those kind of rumors are the ones that expand into panic when a team flails like the Pelicans have in the last two seasons.
Los Angeles is currently 1.5 games ahead of the Phoenix Suns at the bottom of the Western Conference, but it remains a prime destination for free agents. They have a youthful core with D’Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson, making them a potential championship contender down the line. If the Lakers were able to land Westbrook and Davis, they would immediately challenge the Golden State Warriors for best in the west.

Westbrook’s contract does not expire until 2019 while Davis’ expires after the 2021 season, so it could be a long time before these two are seen playing together in the purple and gold. If the Lakers can get both to agree they want to play in Los Angeles together for a long time, they may have to trade assets and picks in order to land the two. They may be hesitant to do this, but considering it’s for two of the best players in the NBA, it may be worth it to make the move.
Los Angeles has been toward the bottom of the NBA since being swept by the San Antonio Spurs in 2013 and they are now searching for a new face of the franchise with the retirement of Kobe Bryant. Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook teaming up could bring this team back to the best in the league.
