The trade is finalized.

Magic power forward Serge Ibaka has been traded to the Toronto Raptors for Terrence Ross and a first round pick.

The Raptors have been in trade talks for a while now, seeming their desperate surge of a power forward upgrade to complete their lineup in contention. For the Magic, this was a smart move. After a suprising choice to get rid of Victor Oladipo in the summer in return for Serge Ibaka, Orlando took advantage of Ibaka’s expiring contract, and acquired much better value.

Is it possible that Ibaka is the missing piece in a Raptors championship run?

Maybe yes, Maybe no. The most important thing is they have claimed another asset that could help them get closer to the top of the NBA.

Clearly Orlando wants to hit the restart button while seeing what trades they are making. Veterans for picks will hurt a team considering the maturity of the Magics’ youth, but with all the young players and assets being carried, good things are to come.

All Orlando is probably hoping from Ross is that he becomes a good asset – He could do much more. The Magic are a terrible offensive team. Few three-point shooters, no attackers and for most part, barely anything to work with. If Ross can come in as a reliable scorer, plus provide some average defense, he could be the face of the franchise in no time.

This trade also makes room for Orlandos’ aspiring big men Aaron Gordon and Bismack Biyombo who are each waiting to reach their potential.

The Raptors defense is hugely improved, with lockdown defenders Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan in the backcourt, Toronto also now has an amazing duo of Serge Ibaka and Jonas Valanciunas in the front-court, both can absolutely lock down numerous teams inside the paint, and force tough shots. Lets not forget about former Atlanta Hawks Forward DeMarre Carroll, who is a top-twenty defender in the NBA.

A respectable trade both ways, as this was a great start to a series of trades that will happen before the deadline.
