The Oklahoma City Thunder are currently in the sixth seed of the NBA Western Conference Standings, which is great for a team that just lost superstar Kevin Durant. This offseason, Kevin left the Thunder to join forces with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green on the Golden State Warriors, leaving Russell Westbrook to lead the Thunder.
Durant is thriving in his new home averaging 26.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game so far this season. On the other hand, Westbrook is making history in Oklahoma City, averaging a triple-double with 31 points, 10.2 assists, and 10.6 rebounds per game. Despite Westbrook’s incredible season the Thunder need to make a trade to fill the hole that Durant left.
Currently the Thunder are starting Andre Roberson at the starting small forward position. Roberson is averaging 6.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists while playing 31 minutes per game. That is not the stat line of a starter. The Thunder need to make a trade for a new starting small forward and lucky for them, the New York Knicks are trying to trade theirs.
The Knicks are having a sub-stellar season and are looking to start a rebuild. They are frustrated with their star player Carmelo Anthony and want him out as soon as possible. Anthony is averaging 22.6 points, 3 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Westbrook is having a great season but he can’t carry the Thunder to the promised land on his own; he needs a supporting cast. Carmelo can be the perfect fit for the Thunder. He can slide right into the starting small forward spot and give Westbrook a much needed second scoring option.
Would Carmelo Anthony accept trade to play next to Westbrook? #Thunder know possible pairing a long shot, but idea intrigues them, I’m told.

Carmelo will fit in great with the Thunder because he is an offensive minded player. Opposing defenses to the Thunder tend to put a second defender on Westbrook, double teaming him in an attempt to force a turnover. With Carmelo on the Thunder, when a second defender approaches Westbrook he can pass the ball to Anthony and give him the scoring opportunity. Now that the opposing team can’t double team Westbrook it forces them to space out the defense which gives Westbrook more room to do what he does best, drive to the hoop.
The addition of Carmelo will take a lot of the scoring load off Russell Westbrook while at the same time help them get closer to their championship dreams.
