Following the New York Knicks’ recent loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, there have been even more questions regarding Carmelo Anthony and his future with the franchise. These rumors are nothing new for the Knicks, as Carmelo’s future gets brought up whenever the team starts losing. Could a Melo trade finally happen? Is he finally willing to waive his no-trade clause and let the franchise rebuild?
Although Carmelo consistently says he wants to stay with the Knicks even through the disappointing season thus far, reports have surfaced saying he would waive it for two teams – the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Los Angeles Clippers.

Both teams when healthy are legitimate title contenders, and would be more so with the possibility of the addition of Melo. Each team also has a good friend of Carmelo in Chris Paul (Clippers) and LeBron James (Cavaliers).
It makes sense why Carmelo would want to play for these teams, but would either of them be able to pull off a trade without trading a key player? It seems very unlikely because of Anthony’s salary and the cap space available to the Clippers and Cavs. The Clippers would likely have to give up Blake Griffin, who is a free agent this summer, and if they believe that he will not re-sign with the team, then a trade for Carmelo Anthony could be possible.
The Cavaliers on the other hand would probably have to give up Kevin Love, who has been playing great for them this year. This rumor circled briefly during last off-season, and because of Love’s play this year, it is highly doubtful that Cleveland would make a blockbuster trade like this. With the team still looking like the front-runners to come out of the East and maybe even repeat as champions, it just does not make a ton of sense for the team at this point.
With all of that being said, the fans would love to see an All-Star like Anthony get moved before the deadline. In order for that to happen, Carmelo may have to expand his horizon in which teams he is willing to play for. Perhaps a team like the Houston Rockets or Oklahoma City Thunder could be possibilities for Melo if he decides he needs out of New York.

These rumors are going to continue to come out as we get closer and closer to the trade deadline. Until then, we just have to hope that all parties included can work something out to get Melo out of that awful situation in New York.
