Former Boston Celtic, Jordan Mickey, has agreed a one-year deal with the Miami Heat. Mickey will sign for the veteran minimum, but the Heat may be getting a real asset.

Mickey only played in 41 games last season for the Celtics, but tore it up in the G League. The former Boston forward recorded 20.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game while with the Maine Red Claws, earning him a recall to the NBA. Mickey can also shoot the deep ball, hitting threes with near 44-percent accuracy.

During the G League playoffs, Mickey performed very well. He upped his offense and averaged almost 22 points per game, he also grabbed close to 13 rebounds per game.

Of course, he wasn’t doing this against NBA competition, but nevertheless he impressed the league enough to get a contract.

Expect Mickey to back up James Johnson at the four, both players are similar in the way they play defense and can shoot from outside.

Pat Riley has put together a very solid, young team who will compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Mickey is another asset who could pay dividends down the road.
