Dirk Nowitzki in his 19th season added to his already solid Hall of Fame legacy on Tuesday night, by becoming just  the sixth player in NBA history to reach 30,000 career points, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to hit the 30,000-point milestone.

The Dallas Mavericks legend came into his team’s home game against the Los Angeles Lakers needing 20 points to achieve the feat, and did so in the second quarter with one of his classic fadeaway jumpers.

Nowitzki was taken with the 9th overall pick in the 1998 draft by the Milwaukee Bucks just behind Mike Bibby, Vince Carter, Jason Williams, and was selected before Paul Pierce. The Bucks ended up trading Nowitzki and Pat Garrity to the Dallas Mavericks in return for Robert Traylor. They then traded Garrity in a package to the Phoenix Suns for future Hall Of Famer Steve Nash, and the rest is history.

Nowitzki is one of the greatest Power Forwards of all time. He is a member of the 50-40-90 Club, as he joins a very select group of players who have had a shooting percentage at or above 50% for field goals, 40% for three-pointers, and 90% for free throws during an entire NBA regular season. This club includes the likes of Larry Bird, Mark Price, Reggie Miller, Steve Nash, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry. Nowitzki is the 17th player in NBA history and the first European to hit the 25,000-point milestone. He is the Mavericks all-time leader in points, rebounds, field goals, field goal attempts, 3-pointers, 3-point attempts, free throws, and free-throw attempts.

Nowitzki has made the NBA All-Star game thirteen times and an All-NBA Team twelve times. He was voted NBA MVP of the 2006–07 NBA season, becoming the first European player to receive the honor. He was the MVP of the 2011 NBA Finals, bringing the Mavs their first championship in team history. Other achievements include winning the 2006 NBA All-Star Three-Point Shootout and MVP of the 2002 FIBA World Championship, and EuroBasket 2005 tournaments.
