After a series of misguided and failed trade attempts, the Cleveland Cavaliers have turned their attentions to free agency, as Derrick Rose and the organisation are in ‘serious talks’ over a potential 1-year deal, per ESPN.

The Cavaliers’ offseason and free agency period has been tumultuous to say the least. Many trade talks and rumors began swirling around a possible trade of starting power forward Kevin Love to the New York Knicks for All-Star Carmelo Anthony, but they amounted to nothing. Then more rumors appeared around the possibility of, in the 2018 offseason, LeBron James leaving for a California team. That may put pressure on the front office.
LeBron is widely regarded as the best player in the NBA. When something like that is said, even by foolish twitter commenters, it can make a front office worried. But it isn’t just foolish twitter commenters saying those things. Former NBA All-Star and current ESPN analyst Jalen Rose stated in a video that LeBron is ‘as good as gone’. That sort of thing can make a GM unhappy. Oh, and speaking of GM’s, the Cavs also released their GM, David Griffin, another example of their offseason craziness. Plus, according to CBSSports.com, they were close to acquiring All-Star Jimmy Butler on the day Griffin was released.

Butler ended up going to the Minnesota Timberwolves and will team up with an exciting young core, exciting many NBA fans. All of that being said, and the only additions to the roster have been the subpar point guard Jose Calderon, Cedi Osman, and the ever-so-mediocre Jeff Green. For Cleveland fans and the fans of the NBA in general, the Cavaliers are trying to prove that they have a chance to win the NBA Finals after an abysmal 2017 performance, which saw them lose in five games to the Golden State Warriors.

They need someone, anyone. Enter Derrick Rose. Rose is a player who, admittedly, has his best years behind him, but those years were really good years, even seeing him win the MVP in 2011.
He was so much fun to watch, and was always good for a highlight every game. But there has always been one problem, which you probably already know. You’ve seen the memes and heard the jokes. It’s his health.
Every year something seems to go wrong, and the consistent injuries led him away from the Chicago Bulls and the windy city and brought him to the big apple, more specifically, the New York Knicks. He looked very promising until another injury brought him out for the year.
With his contract over, it is clear to the public that he wants to leave the Knicks. He had ‘serious talks’ with the Cavaliers recently and, though he had talked with other teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Clippers, he gained momentum with the Cavs, sources tell ESPN. He did say he wants to play with a contender, so the Cavs are a good option for that. The hometown factor is a big one, and being on Cleveland would bring him close to home.
His three choices now are the Cavs, the Bulls, and the Los Angeles Lakers. All three of those options seem like great fits for Rose, and I’m sure you’ll agree that we can’t wait to see where he ends up.
