The Brooklyn Nets (8-27) are currently holding the worst record in the NBA, and seem to be getting worse as each game goes by. For many years, they have tried to trade Brook Lopez at the trade deadline knowing their season was lost, but this year may finally be the year he is shipped to a contender.
Brooklyn is asking for two first-rounders for Lopez, a high price, but a price a team may bid if they encounter an injury or are weak at the center position. Lopez has averaged 18.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.5 assists per game throughout his career, making him a valuable commodity for any team looking to compete for an NBA championship.

Lopez is known for his offense and could become an instant producer of offense. If a team were able to surround Lopez with far better players than the Nets have done, he could average even more on the offensive end due to teams having to focus on other all-star caliber players.
Considering Lopez had 3 years left on his current contract, teams may be willing to spend on the center knowing they will have him for more than just one playoff run. He’s locked up to helping them in the long-term, unless they are the ones that want him out.

Unfortunately for teams around the league as well as the Nets, Lopez has $63 million left on his contract. For somebody nearing what could be the peak of his career, this may not be that much for a team to swallow, but it could be hard to certain teams to work this contract into their payroll. With a deal so large, many of the NBA’s teams could be unable to afford Lopez.
Lopez is a solid starter and is going to be able to provide valuable minutes and a lot of production to any team looking for a center in the trade market. Unlike so many of the players being shopped, Lopez is an all-star who could take a team on the verge of the playoffs to becoming on the of league’s best. Any team not willing to give up two first-rounders for Lopez better watch out because he could be the one who hurts them if he’s not on their roster.
